COVAL Certification Course - Initial, For Dangerous Goods Training Instructor

Under the ICAO Dangerous Goods Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) approach, instructors of initial and recurrent dangerous goods training must demonstrate or be assessed as competent in instruction and the function(s) that they will instruct prior to delivering such training.

All personnel delivering dangerous goods training in the UAE regardless of the function they are delivering the training for.

Prerequisites:

  1. For Instructors delivering dangerous goods training as defined in the Functions In Table (FIT);
  • FIT 4.1.A, 4.1.B, 4.1.C, 4.1.D, 4.1.E and the function of Load Control/Ground Dispatcher/Load Master in FIT 4.1.G which its training aspects are almost equivalent to/previously known as Categories 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 must hold a current dangerous goods training certificate of “FIT 4.1.A” or “CAT-6”, or prove of delivering one CAT-6 training in the last 6 months as a minimum (official letter from the employer is acceptable), prior to the date of COVAL course they registered for (as applicable). Please share your current certificate or the letter from your employer by email to IACT@gcaa.gov.ae  

 

  • FIT 4.1.F, 4.1.G (except the function of Load Control/Ground Dispatcher/Load Master), 4.1.H, 4.1.I, 4.1.J and 4.1.K which its training aspects are equivalent to/previously known as Categories 9, 10, 11 and 12 must hold a current dangerous goods training certificate of “FIT 4.1.E” or “CAT-8”, as applicable. Please share your current certificate by email to IACT@gcaa.gov.ae  

 

2- Holds a current and relevant instructional skills certificate (such as Train the Trainer, Professional Skills for Dangerous Goods Training Instructor…etc.) issued by a training provider either accredited or recognized by GCAA. Please share your certificate by email to IACT@gcaa.gov.ae  

3- Attach their CV, to verify the minimum experience requirements as per Subsection 4.9.6 of Revision 1.4 of Civil Aviation Regulations “CAR Part VI. Please share your CV by email to IACT@gcaa.gov.ae  

4- Since the Dangerous Goods National Regulatory requirements is an integral part of COVAL, all participants are required to familiarize themselves with the Civil Aviation Regulations (CAR) PART VI – Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air at https://www.gcaa.gov.ae/en/epublication/civil-aviation-regulations

  • The GCAA initiative Competency Validation (COVAL) certification course, for dangerous goods training instructor aligns with GCAA approach to implementation of the dangerous goods Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBTA), which is an ICAO new approach to dangerous goods training, globally. COVAL Is the GCAA integrated approach to certify Dangerous Goods Training Instructors, through the assessment and validation of their Knowledge, Skills and Attitude to ensure they are competent in the function(s) that they will perform prior to performing such function(s), due to the impactful role they play in maintaining the safe transport of dangerous goods by air. 

     

    In this course, you will learn about;

    • the current dangerous goods key regulatory requirements as defined in CAR PART VI.
    • the current challenges and upcoming regulatory changes.
    • how to assess trainees during the course of the training.
    • The guidance you may offer to help the employer to assess the competency of their employees.

     

    Your Knowledge, Skills and Attitude will be assessed during the course through;

    • Your participation in the individual and group work exercises and discussions.
    • Written assessment/exam.
