The GCAA initiative Competency Validation (COVAL) is the GCAA integrated approach to certify Dangerous Goods Training Instructors and Dangerous Goods Post Holders, through the assessment and validation of their Knowledge, Skills and Attitude to ensure they are competent in the function(s) that they will perform prior to performing such function(s), due to the impactful role they play in maintaining the safe transport of dangerous goods by air. COVAL also aligns with GCAA approach to implementation of the ICAO Dangerous Goods Competency Based Training & Assessment (CBTA).

Instructor Group A (IGA) means dangerous goods training instructor approved or certified by GCAA under the banner of COVAL to deliver dangerous goods training for all the functions in Tables FIT 4.1.A to FIT 4.1.K of CAR Part VI.
Instructor Group B (IGB) means dangerous goods training instructors approved or certified by GCAA under the banner of COVAL to deliver dangerous goods training for the functions in tables FIT 4.1.E, 4.1.F, 4.1.G, 4.1.H, 4.1.I, 4.1.J and 4.1.K of CAR Part VI.
